Chrome ball interview #74: Kris Markovich

It used to but I don’t really give a shit anymore. To be honest, I look back on everything now and I feel kinda torn about things. Growing older and being in a totally different place in my life, I would’ve probably handled a few things differently now. But, at the same time, I am who I am now because of those situations. I’ve dealt with a lot of bullshit but now have a thicker skin because of it. I’ve learned patience. Always wear safety pads and skateboard shoes to prevent major injuries.  How seriously did you take filming for  Winona Ryders ? Just asking because while the part was sick, it also had the crazy escalator thing and the bare ass ender... Honestly, it was still a little weird. That was my first real taste of the industry and I was still trying to figure things out. All I knew was that we were going to film this video and get tricks. I always took it seriously but it was never calculated. We’d just go skating. And I didn’t know anything back then. I was the new k

Rules of Golf 2019: My Reaction

The  Rules of Golf  are changing in 2019 and there are several changes that stand out to me. Earlier this week I watched a  short YouTube video  from Rick Shiels discussing a few of the changes you need to be aware of. Then I found a list of 20 of the most important changes. Below I will list and react to these. Keep in mind, I play golf every week/weekend and while I don’t play a lot of competitive golf, I try to play by the Rules of Golf. Some of these rules are good and will potentially increase pace of play. Some, though, are silly and unnecessary. Let’s discuss. 1. Search time – Reduced from 5 to 3 minutes I LOVE this change. You don’t need 5 minutes to find your golf ball. If you don’t see it, after 1 or 2 minutes, accept it and drop. Will be curious to see if any  PGA TOUR  players are put on the clock for this. Of course TOUR players have a slight advantage of someone seeing where their ball ends up. 2. Ball moving during search – replace (no penalty) This is a good chang

Replacing a broken truss rod

This Gibson EBO bass had a broken truss rod, and the neck had too much bow in it.  Because we could hear it rattling in the neck near the neck pickup we had a pretty good idea it was broken at the anchor.  The first step was to pull the rod out.  Ron tapped against the nut until he could get ahold of it with a Robogrip and PULLED! Once it was out he could use it and magnets to locate the anchor.   Next step was to remove the last 2 frets and drill down into the fingerboard to hopefully expose the anchor with the broken end of the rod still in it.  It worked!  He cleaned out the hole and removed the anchor.  Since the rod was long enough he threaded the broken end and extended the threads on the other end where the nut goes.  Next he cut a new anchor from a piece of bar stock, drilled and tapped it.  The repaired rod was then waxed, threads and all, and pushed back into the neck.  The wax is a lubricant to help it slide in and also helps lubricate the nut.  Then the new anchor was

Tips For The First Time Ice Skaters

1 .  Wear proper clothes. When  ice skating , you should wear clothes that are easy to move around in and will not get heavy when wet. Do not wear jeans. When you fall they can get damp and will be harder to skate in. Try some warm, thick leggings, t- shirt, jacket, gloves, and hat. 2 .  Find good skates. Skates should be fitted for comfort and are available in most shoe sizes. It's a good idea to measure both feet as one foot can be bigger than the other. Also, measure the width of your foot while sitting down. There are a number of good brands you can buy, but rentals are adequate for your first steps. 3.  Try walking. Most skate rinks have rubber matting you can walk on. Walk around to help maintain your center of gravity but remember to keep your skate guards on. 4 .  Get on the ice. Walking around the edge of the rink while holding the wall will help you get a feel for the ice. The keys to skating well are relaxation and technique. Learning to walk wil

How Playing Golf Makes You an Analytical Thinker

Most golfers hit the course with a one-track mind. See the ball, hit the ball. They don’t invest themselves in learning how the game of golf is intrinsically strategic. For example, rather than looking for the perfect spot to land their drive, they reach back and try to hit the longest drive possible. What these golfers are losing in the process is the ability to become more analytical as a golfer and how that can translate to other areas of their life such as business. Here are five ways that playing golf can increase your capacity as an analytical thinker and how that will pay dividends to all areas of your life. To be a great golfer you have to become aware of everything that surrounds you. With each shot, golfers have to account for the wind, the lie of the ball, and what the condition is for the target area. By immersing yourself in how the outside world affects something as small as a golf shot, you’ll become more aware at how the moods, feelings and the language

Adrenal Fatigue 101: Symptoms, Testing, Diet, and Supplements to Support Adrenal Burn-Out Recovery

These little glands are in the endocrine chain of command (along with your thyroid), and are in charge of regulating the body’s stress response through adrenaline and cortisol, our chief fight or flight hormones. If you’re a member of the HashiPosse or your thyroid is out of commission, the adrenals have to work extra hard to generate energy for the body. It’s the actual scenario of “running on fumes.” Without proper thyroid hormones to keep the wheels moving, you might be barreling full speed ahead on adrenaline and cortisol alone. Unfortunately, like any well-oiled, but overused machine, your adrenals can only hang in there for so long without a break. Adrenal fatigue is what happens when you’ve used up all your cortisol reserves due to constant daily stress, another hormone imbalance (like hypothyroidism), or often, both. I’ve struggled with adrenal fatigue symptoms on and off for the last decade, but it wasn’t until this past spring that I actually took a test. Since then

Vetiver essential oil health benefits and how to use it

Vetiver (a perennial grass) belongs to the Poaceae family and native to India. It grows up to 1.5 mm meter and has a tall stem and long thin rigid leaves. Today regions like Haiti, Java, Japan, the Philippines and reunion island produces it. A fast-growing perennial can survive 50 years or more like a vast network of interlinked underground roots sustains all those green leaves. While not know it dates back centuries and in the 12th century even became a chargeable item in India. Vetiver essential oil extract is made from vetiver grass by the distillation process. For making the extract, first, cultivates its roots for two years and then harvest it for making its extract. Once its roots are ready for extraction, wash, dry and chop it and then soaked. Pharmaceuticals companies make their extract through the steam distillation of the plant’s roots. It has a significant role in Ayurveda because of its earthy aromatic essence. Its extract is an essential ingredient in perfumes, s

5 Big Lessons Skateboarding Taught Me About Business

As a teenager I was a “skater.” One of those kids who hung out downtown and annoyed the pedestrians. Skateboarding is how I spent my teenage years. Was I any good? I like to think so. Towards the end of my skating days, I almost got my 360 flips dialed in, used to launch myself straight off huge sets of stairs, and even landed some pretty big backside heel flips off a dip in the industrial park. This was in a time when there were very few skate parks so we had to make due with our surroundings. In many ways, spending most of my days skipping class and hanging out with my friends laid a solid foundation for the way I look at business today (my parents may have a different view on this): 1. Focus On Your Passions Ask my parents and they’ll tell you how much I loved skateboarding and hanging out with my friends – maybe too much. There were times I’d jump on my bike to pedal 10 kilometers for a 2 hour session with some friends. Then there were those days I would get a new skateb

The schedule has been released for the 70th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament, the premier amateur golf event in the Philippines and one of the longest-running international amateur golf tournaments in the world. B12 Deficiency/Pernicious Anemia Awareness

Some things just sneak up on you.  Little things that you don’t pay attention to because they don’t really interfere with your day or they come and go. You’re a little more tired than usual. Your legs feel a little weak. Take some minerals, get some sleep, work out a little more. Ignore it, because life takes precedence and there are things to do. I had this habit of drinking diet soda. When I was a kid I discovered Diet Dr. Pepper. Mom was always putting me on a diet, so it made sense. No sugar, no calories, no fat. We know better now, but in the 70s we all wanted to be thin (I wasn’t). My addiction to diet soda lasted a long time, almost 30 years. You never saw me without a bottle or a glass of it. Two liters a day, easily. I didn’t drink, I didn’t smoke, I didn’t do drugs. Diet soda was a vice I could live with. So I thought. Five years ago I heard about something called “Aspartame poisoning” What??? Poisoning?? Hair falling out-check. Migraines-check. Irritability-check. St

Replacing a broken truss rod

FIVE FAVS – NUTRITION SUPPLEMENTS

Over the years I’ve tried many nutrition supplements and want to share with you some of my favs that keep me in top shape and feeling great. I’m not selling anything I recommend, these are just my reviews from personal use, and I genuinely do use all of these regularly. BCAAs I love Branched Chain Amino Acids (or BCAAs for short). If you come to my spin class and want tips on getting to the next level for a PR, I’ve probably mentioned these. I started taking them when I began spinning and noticed a huge difference in both my performance and how I felt the next day after hard workouts. They are sugar and caffeine free and work at the cellular level to decrease muscle soreness and reduce fatigue when you exercise. They also increase muscle growth by preserving muscle and promoting fat burn when you work out. Read For More Information -  https://karijorgensen.life/five-favs-nutrition-supplements/#comment-244

How to Install a New Tune-o-matic Bridge

Pay close attention to the angle of each string in relation to the tailpiece. The tailpiece should be adjusted so the strings never touch the rear edge of the Tune-o-matic. Contact here can cause tuning problems, so all the strings need to clear the bridge frame. You must have the genuine guitar spare parts to replace any like, wraparound bridge , custom guitar tailpiece , etc.  When the tailpiece is adjusted, I finish filing the string slots. This involves carefully sloping down the back of the slots to allow each string to follow its natural angle as it emerges from the tailpiece to the point where it contacts the saddle. Adjusting intonation. The final step is to intonate the guitar by moving the new saddles forward or backward in the bridge to shorten or lengthen the vibrating portion of the string. The saddle-intonation adjustment screw is located at the rear of the bridge, and the idea is to move each saddle forward (by turning the screw counterclockwise) or backward (cl

UNUSUAL ACOUSTIC GUITAR BRIDGE REPAIR

Ok, so you’ve got to admit that’s a little unusual. What we’ve got is a tailpiece installed on this Takamine. It’s anchoring the strings which pass through the (pinless) bridge and up over the saddles. Whatever else, it’s an inventive solution to  some  sort of problem. Thing is, it’s not the best solution. The tailpiece is resting against the top of the guitar with isn’t the best for getting a good tone. Also, the guitar’s designed to have strings couple to the   wraparound bridge   for good transfer to the top. You can see the problem this was trying to solve. The original bridge had cracked and was starting to disintegrate where the strings anchored. Along the way, someone had installed a third bolt right in the middle to try keep it together. You can see the filler sunken in between the D and G strings at the rear or the bridge. These bridges already have a couple of bolts installed to help keep them from ripping free and flying across the room. Once this
