How Playing Golf Makes You an Analytical Thinker

Most golfers hit the course with a one-track mind. See the ball, hit the ball. They don’t invest themselves in learning how the game of golf is intrinsically strategic. For example, rather than looking for the perfect spot to land their drive, they reach back and try to hit the longest drive possible.
What these golfers are losing in the process is the ability to become more analytical as a golfer and how that can translate to other areas of their life such as business.
Here are five ways that playing golf can increase your capacity as an analytical thinker and how that will pay dividends to all areas of your life.
To be a great golfer you have to become aware of everything that surrounds you. With each shot, golfers have to account for the wind, the lie of the ball, and what the condition is for the target area.
By immersing yourself in how the outside world affects something as small as a golf shot, you’ll become more aware at how the moods, feelings and the language of others affect your day-to-day life. Even the costs of your golf club and choosing the one that has the best value for money will help you become an analytical thinker. Golf club is very important for a beginner and best drivers for beginners is very much required to learn golf.
The best golfers in the world know what they want to do on each hole before they place their tee into the ground. Yes, they will have to improvise when things don’t go according to their plan, but that doesn’t mean their ideas were flawed, just the execution.

Whether longboarding to class or skating for leisure, those who own boards on campus represent a small fraction of the student body. Whitman’s campus isn’t exactly ideal for the sport. For skateboarding you mainly just need an open, rarely frequented area with various obstacles and terrain. If there is a skatepark nearby, obviously that is a large draw, but for Whitman students, the nearest park is in College Place. On campus, skaters use the small area outside of Olin Hall or can be seen behind North Hall practicing tricks. As for longboarding, all one really needs is a hilly area that is hopefully nicely paved, ideally with not much traffic.  In Walla Walla, serious elevation change is something of a rarity, so most long boarders on campus mainly direct their hobby toward getting to class. However, there are students who do manage to find places off ca...
