Parts Of An Electric Guitar Explained

The Headstock The tuning machines, which are located in the headstock at the top of the guitar’s neck and are used to change the tension of the strings to accomplish the desired pitch, are located here. Its shape and design can vary based on the manufacturer and guitar style, and it is typically made of wood. Additionally, branding or decorative components like logos, inlays, or personalised patterns may be present on the headstock. The stability of the guitar’s tuning can be influenced by the headstock’s shape, with some designs being better at maintaining the strings’ pitch. The function and appearance of the guitar are significantly influenced by the neck, as it is one of the most an essential  guitar parts . Guitar Bridge A guitar’s bridge is the part that fastens the strings to the body of the instrument and is in charge of transferring the sounds from the strings to the soundboard or pickups. ABR-1 Bridge On a USA Gibson®?

The ABR-1  Tune-O-Matic bridge  was the only adjustable Bridge used on stoptail equipped Gibson guitars from 1957-1974.  In 1974 Gibson introduced the Nashville Bridge. Since then, the ABR-1  has predominantly been installed on the Custom Shop and Historic models, and the Nashville on the USA line. For a detailed understanding of the 2 bridges see my prior blog post,  What Is the Difference Between the Different Bridge Types In 2017, Gibson started using an ABR-1 on it’s USA Models, most notably the very popular Les Paul Traditional.  As of this blog post, I see that Gibson is fitting an ABR-1 on models in both the “Original Collection” and  “Modern Collection”, not only Les Paul, but also the SG and ES models. The first thing to know it that that your ABR-1  guitar bridge  is the same one used on any other Gibson ABR-1. The difference is how your bridge mounts to the guitar. How to Choose Electric Guitar Strings

Since the electric guitar produces sound by amplifying the strings’ vibrations across a metal plate, the type of electric guitar string used heavily influences the sound quality and overall tone of the instrument. While selecting the proper electric guitar string may seem like a daunting task, understanding each of the factors that affect guitar sound and taking the time to research and experiment can help take some of the guesswork out of the process. Read on for advice on how to find the electric guitar strings that best match your electric guitar and playing style. Electric guitar strings are one of the important  guitar parts  and are manufactured in a variety of thicknesses, or gauges. Designated in thousandths of an inch, the lightest gauges are typically an .008 and the heaviest a .56. Although each string technically has a different gauge, as thinner strings produce higher notes and vice versa, the gauge is identified by the diameter of the thinnest st...

It’s Time To Improve Your Les Paul Gibson

Guitarists always look for something that can help them get a little more from their instrument. They modify and upgrade the instruments because they expect better quality of music. For Gibson Les Paul guitars there are a lot of mods and upgrades available to do so. So, here are a few things that you can do to  upgrade your guitar  or improve your Les Paul and get a few locking bridges or tailpieces. Upgrades: When it comes to upgrades many guitarists are mistaken by a belief that modifying the guitar aspects can help them sell their guitar at a high price.. When you add a new hardware to your guitar, it doesn’t mean you can increase the value of your instrument. Mostly, buyers would like the guitar in its original form. So, original guitar parts matter when you want to sell your Les Paul guitar. ABR-1 Bridgehas an old design and the mass area is also less. In this small area of contact with the body of guitar, Faber design works exceptionally well. It becomes more stab...

Ruokangas Valvebucker – The First Ever Tube-driven Guitar Pickup

Ruokangas Valvebucker Here’s the basic idea: put a valve inside a pickup loaded on a guitar. But can this even work? Well, it has a tube-amplified active preamp circuit utilising triode and pentode NOS valves. That’s then powered by an XLR cable running to an external 12V AC power supply in the floor. Ruokangas says the  Valvebucker  uses very low voltages and makes use of ‘sweet spots’ found outside typical operational points of vacuum tubes. It all sounds a bit odd, but I’ll go with it if it works. Colour me interested! I’m a guitarist with a weird obsession with valves. As long as I don’t burn my fingers on hot tubes when I’m playing, I am game for this. See the diagram below to see how it all works. The pedal has two inputs: one XLR coming from the Valvebucker, the other normal TRS from your normal guitar. The footswitch toggles between the two inputs. Valve Control It all sounds like it should work and I think I’m safe in saying my fingers won’t get toast...
