Benefits of Skateboarding

Everyone is always highlighting the dangers of skateboarding and all the things that can go wrong but in actual fact there are a lot of benefits to be had from skateboarding. The physical benefits of skateboarding outweigh the physical dangers involved. Skateboarding regularly trains a lot of muscles that are otherwise underutilised in general health and fitness.
Skateboarders have strong legs, strong cores, and are very flexible to compensate for the impact of landing a trick and to be able to do the tricks. Skateboarding is also a high intensity activity which builds cardiovascular fitness as well as muscular strength. Skateboarders also have great balance to stay on the board and land on it without falling over and injuring themselves with every attempt. In the beginning there will obviously be more falls than later on in the learning process as the muscles get stronger and muscle memory sets in. Skateboarding can also be used as a good weight loss exercise as it is high intensity and uses explosive movements. This means that it has high energy consumption over short periods of time which is the same concept as High Intensity Interval Training.

So keep your rest periods short and follow a good diet and you will see results. Another benefit that applies especially to the youth is that it gives them an activity to apply themselves to in their free time and keeps them occupied and if they are given the proper support and a safe place to do it in then they will be kept out of trouble. They will learn to set goals for themselves and when they accomplish those goals they will feel more fulfilled.
